Why you should not use the built-in flash in your camera

If you have like using flash in your shots, you will know by now that the in-built flashgun that comes with the camera is one of the most undesirable ways to light your subjects. This is where you are getting the flat lights which usually produce some of the ugliest photos you have taken. The shadows that are produced do not look real and you seemed to be producing lots of red-eye photos as well.
While the manufacturers had good intentions by building the flash guns into the camera as they are very convenient and all that, it is also a counter-productive feature because it is located too close to the camera lens which causes the problems. This means that your grandfather’s old camera which came with a detachable flash would be the most ideal layout.
So like it or not, no matter how expensive your camera is, try not to use the flashgun that comes with it. Always try to use a separate flash because the whole concept is to place the flash as far away from the lens as possible. This will give you the intended effect while it also offers you with a whole new set of effects. You get to control where the light would face or bounce off like walls and ceilings so that you can control the intensity of the light.
What then should you do when you are stuck with the built-in flash? This is where you will need to be a bit more explorative and maybe innovative and use as much natural light as possible. The modern cameras today with auto-focus functions would basically let in as much light as it can and if necessary invoke the flash function but you would need to work around the shutter speed as the camera might not be able to adjust to moving objects or shaky hands.
